This page shows the right conversion for kilowatt to horsepower:

It assumes electric horsepower, and further down the page, it says this:
How many kW in 1 hp? The answer is 0.746
If you type in "1" next to "hp" the calculator shows 0.746 next to "kW" so that means 1 hp = .746 kW.
If you enter "1" next to "kW" then the converted value is displayed as "1.34048257373" next to "hp". So that means 1 kW = 1.34048257373 hp.
