Barometric pressure variations are true, but they are very small—roughly 0.5 inHg ≈ , 0.25 psi—much lower than the pressures your body can typically withstand. Although they don't physically "crush" tissues, minor alterations can have an impact on sinuses, joints, or nerves, causing pain or migraines in those who are sensitive.

1 inHg is equivalent to 0.491 psi.

Instead of mechanical force, the effect is mostly biological (pressure-sensitive tissues, inflammation, or nerve response).
