Is there a way to roughly convert the value of $USD at two different points in time, accounting for inflation? For example, if something cost $400 in 1898, what would that be equivalent to in 1972, or today? I understand it's a complicated question, because purchasing power and the cost of things are more complicated than just inflation. But I often find myself wanting such a tool, and not knowing how to easily look it up. It would be cool to learn of a basic, free, easy way to do this.
