It is impossible to convert sq. meter to tonnes.
Square meter (sq. meter), like square yard, is used to define the size of an area.
Tonnes is used to define the weight of an object.
It is not possible to define the weight of an area.
Area (sq. meter) is two dimensional; for an example = length by breadth.
A tonne of any thing; generally speaking, needs to have volume; being three dimensional, in the first place. For instance, in the form of a cube. That means, added to the length and breadth, comes the height.
Multiply these three with each other, then you get, cubic inch, cubic yard or cubic meter; and so on.
If your question would have been,"How do I convert 1 cubic meter of water to tonnes?", then you will get the following answer:
1 tonne = 2204,6 pounds = 1000 kilogram
By the way, to make it even more intricate; the water has to be 39,2°F = 4°C (Celsius). Smile.
Greetings and Salutations,
from this side of the pond.
