You state that pilots flying above 18000ft AMSL (Above Mean Sea Level)set their barometric altimeters to 29.92 Ins HG or 1013.2 Millibars.
As a pilot of long experience I can tell you that this is incorrect. The "Transition Level", as it is known, where this occurs is 3500ft world wide.
This is to ensure that all aircraft are using the same datum point to set their altimeters thus reducing the chance of collision with other aircraft or terrain.
