foot/ pounds or ft/lbs is a measure of torque. That is a turning or twisting force. Imagine a lever a foot long with a one pound weight on it, that has a force of 1ft/lb. If the bar was twice as long with a pound on it,or the same length with two pounds on it, it would be 2ft/lbs.
Pounds per square foot is a measurement of pressure. An area of one square foot with a force on one pound has one foot pound of pressure.
