The decimal point does not separate feet and inches, it's a pure decimal point. So 1.23 feet means 1 foot and 23/100 feet, not 1 foot and 23 inches.

173 cm = 5.675853 decimal feet

5.675853 feet = 5 feet + 0.675853 feet

0.675853 feet = 8.11 inches

0.11 inches is approximately 7/64 inches

So adding it all up:

173 cm = 5 feet + 8 inches + 7/64 inches

Since the fractional form has been a common request, it has now been added as an additional calculation. Try this page now:

Technically, if you are trying to get high accuracy, 5 feet plus 8 and 7/64 inches = 172.9978125 cm so it's not exactly 173 cm if you need precision. So the decimal form is the highest precision, but the fractional form is useful for many measurements.
