Re: kilonewtons to PSI   (03/19/2008, 10:03 PM)

PSI means pounds per square inch, which is a measure of pressure:

Kilonewtons is a measure of force:
https://www.convertunits.com/info/kilonewtons

So if you want to convert pressure to force, you need to know the area over which the pressure is acting. An example would be if you are applying a pressure of 100 PSI over an area of 10 square inches, then you would get:

100 PSI * 10 square inches = 1000 lbs of force

Then you can convert the lbf to kN:

https://www.convertunits.com/from/pounds/to/kilonewtons

1000 pound-force = 4.4482216 kilonewtons

So 100 PSI acting on 10 square inches is equivalent to 4.4482216 kilonewtons. The key is to know how many square inches of area you want to use.
