Why do you deduct vacation and holidays from the salary calculation?   (06/30/2012, 2:32 PM)

Personally, I think deducting Vacation days and holidays from your hourly rate is silly. While it's true that you are not working during that time, you aren't getting paid double time either! If you were an hourly worker, and your pay check showed $25.00/hr for example and the following year the boss decided to grant everyone 2 more holidays Veterans day and election that you did not have before, your weekly check would still show $25.00/hr in the hourly column on your check. So a salaried worker generally gets the same time off as an hourly worker, except at least in most cases they do not get paid overtime! So the deducting holidays is irrelevant. If you go that rout then you should count all the extra hours salaried people put in "free" when the company is busy and hourly people are getting time and a half. That would negate a lot of the vacation time anyway. I say simply base it on 52 weeks a year. That's what you get paid, whether it's time worked or paid time off.
