A megabit is a SI-multiple (see prefix mega) of the unit of bit for digital information storage or transmission, abbreviated Mbit (or Mb). The official SI definition uses the "mebibit" or Mib unit to represent 2²⁰ bits. However, most people have requested the more common usage, so the non-SI version is used on this site.
